Dr Sher Afkan Aslam

Dr. Sher Afkan Aslam is a Consultant Vitreoretinal Surgeon at the Oxford Eye Hospital and an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Oxford. He specialises in the full spectrum of vitreoretinal disease, including retinal detachment, diabetic eye disease, and macular disorders, and is actively involved in the training of international vitreoretinal fellows.

He completed his medical training at the University of Southampton and specialist ophthalmic training at Moorfields Eye Hospital, followed by a DPhil at the University of Oxford focused on treatments for retinal laser injury. His research has been widely published and presented internationally, with particular interests in retinal trauma, neuroprotection, and retinal degeneration.

Dr. Aslam is Surgical Governance Lead and Vitreoretinal Fellowship Director at the Oxford Eye Hospital, a Trust Appraiser, and a regular reviewer for leading ophthalmic journals. He previously served for over 20 years in the British Army Medical Services, retiring at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, and continues to apply the leadership and teamwork skills gained through military service to his clinical and academic practice.
